NEFCU is actively seeking candidates for the Board of Directors. 

Nebraska Energy Federal Credit Union is governed by a nine member volunteer board of directors. The board members have the responsibility for directing and controlling the affairs of the credit union's operations, including the development of a strategic plan. Credit Unions were founded on the principal of "people helping people" and as a volunteer, you would be putting that philosophy into action.

Volunteers are essential to the credit union movement and one of the foundations of the movement's uniqueness. As a member of the NEFCU board of directors you will have a unique opportunity to assist in the developing of the strategic direction and participate in the decision-making process of the credit union. You will have opportunities to network and interact with board and management staff of NEFCU, as well as numerous educational forums.
 
Desired Qualifications:
  • Possess areas of knowledge, experience or interest pertinent to the Credit Union's future.
  • Has a good credit standing and no felony criminal violations.
  • Is a member in good standing of the Credit Union. Is an active user of NEFCU financial products and services.
  • Eligible member must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Is willing to accept the responsibilities of an elected volunteer.
  • Will be able to act independently and objectively regardless of external relationships with other volunteers and/or employees.
  • Is not an employee/volunteer for an other financial intuition.
  • Current employees or previous employees, whose employment occurred less than five years ago, are not eligible.
  • Members with Conflicts of Interest with staff, board or other volunteers are not eligible.
Duties:

The Board of Directors holds the power and responsibility for all operations and functions of the Credit Union. To carry this out, the Board must:
  • Establish goals and objectives
  • Determine policy to achieve these goals
  • Manage CEO 
  • Appraise performance and results of CEO
  • Report to Membership 
  • Fulfill the requirements of its Act, By-Laws and Rules and Regulations
Commitment and Responsibilities:
  • Attend monthly board meetings (in person or via zoom conferencing). Meetings are usually held the fourth Thursday of every month
    beginning at 10:00 a.m. CDT. - usually lasting two hours
  • Attend an orientation session
  • Make a personal commitment through consistent attendance and active participation at board, committee meetings and educational sessions
  • Attend the annual meeting in June of each year
  • Attend the annual Strategic Planning Session in September/October (usually a one day/all day session which includes the monthly board meeting)  
Nomination Process:

Each year a nominating committee consisting of three NEFCU volunteer members is established. The nominating committee will ask incumbent directors up for
re-election in the subsequent year to declare their interest in continuing to serve. The nominating committee will review the volunteer applications. To be eligible for consideration for nomination to the Board, a candidate must be an Nebraska Energy Federal Credit Union Member, meet application qualifications and pass a third-party background check. If approved, the nominating committee will make recommendation that the nominee(s) name(s) be added to the ballot for vote by the members in attendance at the annual meeting. 

Election will be conducted by ballot at the annual meeting. Nominations will be accepted from the floor, however should a nominee from the floor be elected, their election to the Board is tentative until the nominating committee reviews their qualifications, including a third-party background check.
